Trip recording allows users to record their trip with their device along with the time, length, and distance of the trip. The trip summary can be used as proof of service.
The recording is part of the data saved with a job or a request, so if a trip recording is needed it must be included in the form definition created for the job or request. A trip recording cannot be started by a field worker unless it has been included in the form.

Creating Trips on Web
Trips can also be created on the web app when submitting or editing a request, job, or asset that has a trip recording control in its form. The web trip creator provides a map-based interface where you can plot trip points manually.
Address Search
An address search bar is available in the bottom-left corner of the trip creator map. If you know the address or general area of the trip, type it into the search bar and press Enter. Select a result from the list to zoom the map to that location. This makes it easy to navigate to the correct area before plotting your trip points, especially for locations you are not familiar with.
Map Options Sidebar
The trip creator includes the map options sidebar with two tabs — Basemaps and Layers — which function the same as they do on all other map views in Gruntify. You can switch between different basemap styles and toggle custom map layers on or off to provide additional context while plotting your trip.
Any basemap or layer changes you make in the trip creator are isolated to that view and will not affect your settings on other map views.
Editing Trips on Web
Completed trips can be edited on the web app to correct for GPS accuracy errors or inaccessible locations. This is available to Controllers and any user with edit permissions on the relevant entity.
Opening the Trip Editor
On a completed trip control, an Edit button appears in the top-right corner (next to delete). Clicking this button opens the trip editor popup.
The editor looks similar to the trip creator, but with the trip's existing points and connecting lines already displayed on the map. The map automatically zooms to show the trip's bounding box when the editor opens.
Moving Points
To adjust a trip, first click on the line displayed, and then click on a point you would like to move. Once the point has enlarged from your first click, simply click and drag it to a new location. The connecting lines update automatically to reflect the new position.
When a point is moved, its bearing, speed, horizontal accuracy, and vertical accuracy metadata are reset to 0 to reflect that the point was manually repositioned. The date and time metadata for the point remains unchanged. A metadata flag is also added to the point to indicate that it was manually edited, which is visible when reviewing trip data in exports.
Editing Constraints
To maintain data integrity and prevent excessive manipulation, the trip editor only allows you to move existing points. You cannot add new points to the trip or remove existing points.
The line and delete tools that are available in the trip creator are not visible in the editor.
Saving or Discarding Changes
Once you have finished editing, click Update to save your changes. Alternatively, click the close button to discard all changes and return to the original trip.
When saved, the updated trip data is uploaded and the trip preview image is regenerated to reflect the new route.
